No ordinary dentist
Gaatjesmakers is a dentist for all children who are not in the right place with an ordinary dentist.
For instance, children who are too young to undergo multiple prolonged treatments. Or children with disabilities. Children who are anxious. And children with many cavities. Or children whose teeth have been damaged as a result of an accident. Often ordinary dentists do not provide all treatment options to help those children in the best possible way. In those cases, these children are more than welcome with us.

How do we work?
There are two ways of ending up with Gaatjesmakers: Either you have contacted us or your dentist has given you a referral. Obviously, we always start with an intake interview*.
An experienced and authorized paediatric dentist (paedodontologist) examines:

the health of your child (based on a checklist you have completed )

*It can be very busy on intake days. The reason for this is that we provide tailor-made care and we try to help each child as best and as carefully as possible. Because every child is different and we are not a normal dental practice, this can result in a slightly longer waiting time.
The treatment plan
Once the problem has been identified, we look for the best solution together with you. First we present a treatment proposal. Then we create a treatment plan together with you. Once the paperwork is in order, you sign for agreement and we can start the treatment. Is your child afraid of the dentist? In that case, he or she will receive special guidance by an experienced child psychologist.
Fast help in case of pain and dental problems
We want to help children in pain as quickly as possible. For that, we offer the following options:

Gaatjesmakers has many years of expertise with children with a disability, autism or other behavioural disorders. Children with a disability are always treated by a specialist dentist who is completely au fait with disability care.

The anaesthetic treatment
If the situation so requires, we can treat your child under general anaesthetic, safe and without pain.
Your child is playfully put to sleep in your lap. Next, our dentists can carry out the treatment while your child is blissfully sleeping.
Patient safety with treatments under anaesthetics
We have six treatment rooms, four of which are suitable for treatment under anaesthetic.
There are four recovery rooms where patients can wake up in peace and privacy, following treatment.
We work strictly in accordance with the criteria set out in the guidelines of the Dutch Association for Anaesthesiology. Treatment under anaesthetic is possible for children from the age of three.

That is why Gaatjesmakers only works with motivated and experienced specialists. Professionals who keep abreast of the latest developments through continuous training. Furthermore, there is close collaboration with the children's anaesthesiology department of the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital.
Costs
All our treatments are fully reimbursed.
We submit the claims, no need for you to worry about that.
Treatments under anaesthetic require the prior approval of your healthcare insurer. Sometimes it may take a little while to obtain this authorization.

Regional referral centre
Within the dental care sector in the The Hague region there is a lack of a specialised referral clinic where young patients can quickly receive appropriate dental care. Gaatjesmakers is able to provide this service and is keen to do so. As such, we offer - you as a fellow dentist - and other care professionals the opportunity to refer young patients to us. We can see and treat the patient immediately. Gaatjesmakers aims to be the main referral centre for children's dental care in the The Hague region.
Gaatjesmakers is an initiative of paedodontologist Mireille Burnier and anaesthesiologist Thomas Brans.
Socila importance
We are convinced that children's dental care can be better and faster and that it should better meet the needs of many patients. Because we are concerned about the ever-increasing healthcare budget, Gaatjesmakers is trying to make a social contribution by actively propagating the notion that treatment should only occur if it has been established that it is useful and effective.

There is a public transport stop in front of the clinic and
around the corner at the Spui.
By car, take exit 2 from the A12, left at the traffic lights,
across the viaduct, then left at the traffic lights.
